TEIXCHEL stands for Tejidos Ecológicos de Ixchel, Ixchel being the first weaver. TEIXCHEL's cooperative consists of weavers from San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala, many of whom are single mothers or widows and support their families through weaving. All of the products from TEIXCHEL are woven exclusively with nontoxic ecodyes and natural dyes to protect the environment.
Process + Technique
- Natural, Eco-dyed Thread (specifically carrot-based dyes made in house)
Design & Embroidery of Mayan symbolism
TEIXCHEL uses only natural, eco-dyes in their products, and hand embroiders all goods.
All TEIXCHEL products carried by My Merkata take between 1-5 days to create, and all designs carry meaning in the Mayan culture - symbolizing the cycle of life, nature, amongst other beliefs.
