TIME SPENT
4 DAYS

Each crossbody takes 4 days to produce, from back-strap weaving the huipile fabric (created specifically for your leather bags), leather selection, and masterful leather treatment & hand-stitching. The leather stitching alone takes 5+ hours of time!

FEATURED TECHNIQUE
LEATHER STITCHING

Due to the significant costs of leather stitching machines in Guatemala, makers need to be creative & resourceful in hand-stitching leather, an unusually thick & unforgiving material. Makers use industrial strength glue to ensure the leather stays in place while sewing.

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
SACATEPEQUEZ HUIPILE

The gorgeous, thick textile fabric is derived from the patterns of huipiles, traditional blouses, worn by indigenous women in San Pedro Sacatepequez, Guatemala. Huipiles are worn daily and certain designs are worn for special occasions, preserving Mayan traditions.
