HOW IT'S MADE

We believe in the importance of knowing what went into your purchase, from time to materials. From the hands of our partner artisans to you, this unique Casual Braided Teal Tote requires significant labor, skill and generational knowledge to create.

TIME SPENT
3 DAYS

Each tote takes 3 days to produce, from yarn selection, back-strap loom weaving and finally hand-braiding the numerous straps per bag. We were surprised to learn that the braiding of the straps took the most time (6+ hours for each and every bag!).

FEATURED TECHNIQUE
BACK-STRAP LOOM

The back-strap loom technique is extremely prevalent across all regions of Guatemala, especially in Mayan weaving communities. The technique is used to make the traditional outfits. The material here is similar to corte fabric, commonly used in women's traditional skirts.
